Brad & Katie planned their entire wedding from out of state but we were lucky to get together for their engagement session last December and got to know eachother a bit. They are definetly in love and it was such a pleasure to work with them! Their wedding was at Jenkin’s Estate, what a beautiful location, it really showcases how beautiful the NW is! We love when our couples add their own personal touches and creativity to their wedding! We’ve seen alot of very creative twists on the traditional guest book, Ernie & Megan’s idea is one of our favorites! They had a photo booth at their reception and a hand made guest book right outside the photo booth, after each guest got their photo strip they were able to cut the duplicate so they kept one copy and placed the other in the guest book, such a great idea!

Married Monday ~ Oregon Wedding Photographer

In honor of Fathers day we decided today’s Married Monday would be about the Father/Daughter dance.

Married Monday ~ Portland Wedding Photographer

Thank you to our amazing Brides & Grooms for sending some great questions! Amanda asked us “We have a surprise planned during our cake cutting, any suggestions to make sure everyone is paying attention?” This is a great question, we see it at so many weddings when the cake cutting is announced not everyone hears or they continue in a conversation and the bride & groom go ahead without much audience. Here are some suggestions:

1. Select an MC for all your reception events (If you hired a DJ, they will do this for you!)
2. Do a pre-announcement, i:e “Brad & Mary will be cutting their cake in 5 minutes, get your cameras and you champagne glasses ready!”

3. Make a final more exciting announcement when it’s time, a great DJ will make sure everyone is engaged so this is one of many reasons to hire a great DJ!!

4. Don’t start until you see that everyone knows what’s going on and is paying attention.
5. While your waiting for everyone’s attention strike a pose or two for your photographer at the cake table!

6. Don’t rush! Like with all the events of your wedding day, take it in and enjoy it!!

Married Monday ~ Portland Wedding Photographer

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! This weeks Married Monday is alot different and really fun! In case you missed us last week, we took the week off to take a vacation before Wedding Season is in full swing! We took our little future photographer to Disneyland for his 2nd Birthday, what a fun trip!

But, of course we couldn’t completely leave work behind, we love it too much! As we walked around Disneyland we saw some adorable couples wearing Bride & Groom Mickey Ears (too cute, right?!) so of course we had to meet them!!

Brandon & Susan were at Disneyland on their honeymoon, they just married in San Diego and decided on Disneyland for their honeymoon since that’s where Brandon proposed last year in front of the castle, how cute is that! They were so obviously in love, I’m so happy we got to meet them and chat for a few! Brandon & Susan, I hope your new life together is always filled with magical moments, lots of laughter and complete happiness!! Congratulations, thanks for letting us snap your photo and sharing your story with us!!

Patrick & Shelly were also at Disneyland on their honeymoon, they just married in Las Vegas but are from Oklahomah and this is their first visit to Disneyland together. They seemed to be having tons of fun and were super sweet to chat with us and let us snap a photo of them!! Patrick & Shelly, we wish you a lifetime of happiness together and of course lots and lots of love!!

With all the Wedding Planning “Must take photo lists” on the Internet and in every planning book figuring out what formal photos you need at your wedding can become a bit confusing. Here’s our advise that we tell every one of our couples:

1. Don’t look at those lists!! An experienced photographer would not recommend every combination of every family member in 3 different versions.

2. We always advise to limit the formal photos of the family and wedding party to 45min. or less and around 10 or less photos.

3. We advise our couples to focus more on the photos of the two of them, after all it is YOUR day! This is the one day of your life that is all about the two of you.

4. Take your formals before your ceremony, we will set up a first glance that’s really a much more special moment to see each other for the first time, you’ll actually get to tell each other how amazing you both look! Your guests will appriciate it too!

5. Remember, you hired a professional photographer. We are very experienced in capturing events so you will get beautiful photos of your entire Wedding Day!

6. Relay & Enjoy your Wedding Day!

Cocktail Hour at your Reception? Yes Please! A cocktail hour is a great opportunity for your guests to mingle and say their Congratulations to you! It sets the scene for some for some fantastic candid/journalism photos and it’s also a perfect opportunity to sneak away for some extra photos of just the two of you.

Plan your cocktail hour around sunset, it will be nice to have a private moment to enjoy the sunset together and it will provide your photographer with fantastic light for those extra photos of just the two of you!
